<p><span style="font-family: Arial; mso-bidi-font-family: 'Times New Roman';"><span style="font-size: small;">I have been seeing a lot of presentations in <a href="http://www.apple.com/iwork/keynote/" target="_blank">Keynote</a> recently.  Now I don&#8217;t know how to use Keynote (or Macs for that matter &#8211; there&#8217;s a reason I write in the left column on this blog).  But I do know how to detect chart junk and the popular Keynote bar chart pictured above is a beautiful example.  Not only does it use 3 dimensions to display data that only needs 2 dimensions, making it harder for the reader to digest the information.  It also has a totally useless and very misleading &#8221;depth effect&#8221; on the horizontal axis.  This makes bars on the left look smaller even if they would represent exactly the same values.  Just a very poor chart &#8230; .</span></span></p>
